Expensive recurring subscription schemes only, without any possibility to acquire the software once and for all. Professionals who work in marine industries probably have better tools at their disposal, whereas enthusiasts or occasional users will need this only once in a blue moon. Ripping the latter off ad infinitum until last judgement day is as unacceptable a monetization scheme as it is unintelligent. A one-time purchase would be o.k., bleeding consumers dry forever is not. Really is a great app, not many ads, subscription seems at a reasonable price, considering how much info you gain if you pay the $6. Even without the subscription, you still get a lot of information about the ships. I do have one recommendation for the developers though: Make it so you can organize 1 fleet, and split it into 2 or 3 fleets, just because I would like to be able to choose between seeing all of Disney's ships separate from all of my others.
