You get the first three lessons free (8 letters), then have to subscribe. Fine, i guess, though it'd have been none to know how much you get, and how much it'll cost, up front. Right after subscribing, it then pushes you to subscribe even longer with a "limited time discount", preying on fomo, while your still so new you don't know how long it'll even take you to learn. At last the review function works now. Edited

Awkward account structure. I started using this app a little more than a month ago and was enjoying it. I bought a subscription thinking it would unlock everything but that isn't the case. They recently changed some things on the app and now they have a Premium and a Premium-Plus membership. So the original premium membership doesn't unlock all the content, only the basic katakana and hiragana content. If you want Kanji stuff, it's extra. Also, accounts don't sync with the MochiKanji app.

Since the recent update, the app simply does not function correctly to a degree that I'm finding it almost unusable. I reached out to the developer and they suggested that I consider the issues I'm having as an additional aid to my learning experience. In other words, they fobbed me off.
