The app is a bit nicer looking after the update, but still clunky due to being filled with ads. It would be nice to view older articles; they added a search function, but it seems to only go back about 3-4 months. A Journal Star subscription is helpful for staying informed about my hometown, but $5 a month is quite steep given the small quantity of articles (their writing staff is quite small) and the huge amount of ads.

Great newspaper, horrible app. I pay for a yearly subscription for digital access only. Despite this, every day I have to uninstall and reinstall the app as it tells me that I have reached a limit on free articles. I have tried logging out and logging back in to my pay account, and even contacting customer service. Customer service solution was to uninstall the app, reinstall it, and login again. This issue has been going on for months. **Update 11/15/19. Subscription now works w/o mult logins Edited

Thank you for v8.1.1 update I received on 4/3/2025. Double-tap to zoom in & out working again, as well as two-finger zoom in/out. Previous version was so unusable I was about ready to cancel subscription.

73 years of age. would have been a 5 star if you wouldnt have stopped the app from auto turning the articles. specifically the comics section. that feature made it easier to read.

Back to the old app from 2020. Much less user friendly than previous version. Doesn't turn the page with a swipe, and the screen is smaller. And what is with the pop-up in-app ads!? Don't we already see enough ads in the newspaper?? I uninstalled quickly so I won't be seeing ANY of the annoying advertisers. Edited
