the app works great. however. it came with my pixel, that I bought over 2 years ago. all of the sudden, when I open it up, all my favorites are gone, as well as all my history. come to find out, they now charge $1.99. so for a measley 2 bucks, and no notification, they just stopped my app from working, that came with my device. sleazy.

Important clarification: this is a 3rd party app (not made by Google or included on Pixel phones). Your one-time purchase adds extra features to the default Now Playing – crucially, the backup function which prevents the exact data loss issue you encountered before getting this app to activate these features.

Much to my chagrin, I discovered when I moved to a new phone that I could not transfer my now playing history. Wishing to stave off this issue in the future, I went searching for solutions. I found this app, which in my opinion, is a lesson in simplistic elegance. It is exactly what you need of you want more features from 'now playing' and you want to save and export this data. Very much worth the $1.99. Bravo sir. Edited

I know there's a warning about battery usage when installing the app, but it caused my phone to last one day on a charge where it was previously lasting two. Additionally, the API that is used for the Album art in this app is terrible, it only gets the original album artwork about 1 in 5 times, usually it will pull up a compilation or best of or remix art instead. Would avoid until further improvements are made.

Thank you for your feedback. The always on display and song identification take about 2% battery from a full charge. The Now Playing History app itself will typically use less than 1% of a full charge. You'll be happy to know that the album art logic has been completely rewritten for the next update and will favor more studio albums.

Works pretty well overall. Wish it was more integrated with the "Now Playing" feature. For instance, clicking the heart or the title of the song on the lock screen should be directed to this app instead of the default one.

Thanks for the review! Clicking song titles on the lock screen can already open in the app, but you might have set 'Always open' with Android System Intelligence. Clearing that default lets you choose Now Playing History. I haven't seen the hearts, but I'll look into it!
