App has been very reliable. I've been using it for several years. Just started having issues where I'm having to "chase" the grid across my phone screen to get the squares filled in. I don't see any updates available so maybe it's my phone, not the app. Any suggestions to fix this?

Having to "chase the grid", as you aptly call it, is a compass issue. You can probably fix it by calibrating the compass: after you start Sasha, wave the phone around in a figure 8 motion . This helps the compass hardware compensate for magnetic fields in the device or case (magnetic clasps are common culprits).

I'm super excited about using the app! Does it have to be a sunny day to work correctly? It was in the instruction video. But I just tried it on a cloudy day and it said 0.0 hours of sun. I assumed it worked by taking photos of the objects in the way of the sun path, but maybe it works based on the brightness meter in the phones camera? I'm not mad at all, I suspect this is user error, but so far "inaccurate" results. (Except that obviously on a cloudy day the spot was getting no sun).

It's disappointing that this app did not correctly do the one thing it was supposed to do. After my site was analyzed, the actual sun was considerably way out outside the two red lines that show the range of where the sun moves throughout the season. I gave it another attempt, and again, inaccurate results. I wanted to contact the developer regarding this, rather than first leaving a review, but I am not finding the developer's contact information anywhere. Hopefully, they can correct this.

To contact developer, In the options menu, select advanced, then "send feedback".
Sorry you are having problems. Most common cause for inaccurate results is not having calibrated the compass. write to
[email protected] and we'll figure it out.
UPDATE: User never contacted support, could not help them.

In the test runs I did around my house, it's easier to use than the instructions make it seem (just point and click a bunch of times, basically), but the results were super inaccurate, which defeats the purpose. Like a full shade spot on the North side of my house registered as 9hrs of sun... Edited

I have been having the best time with this app. My backyard had very many declining, diseased pine trees, and we've been having them taken down as we can afford to. SASHA has helped me analyze the areas we've opened up for possible planting space, for both annuals and perennials. What has been striking to me is seeing that some areas I thought didn't get enough sun actually do, and others that I thought got enough sun for vegetable growing just don't. (Hint: calibrate frequently to be sure you don't get errors.) By changing the date range configuration in SASHA and going one month at a time, I've been able to determine spots that lend themselves well to certain types of vegetable plantings (i.e., cool season or warm season crops) so I can try to maximize planting areas. I can also get a feel for which trees ought to come down next based on what I want to accomplish for the following year. The developer is a very generous man who has been very open to suggestions on how this app might be made even better than it already is. You'd spend this much on renting one movie, tipping your Instacart driver, or buying a fancy double latte. Even if you decide it won't work perfectly for you for everything, it's a lot of fun to play with SASHA. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the app evolves over time!

Thank you very much for your kind words! I am happy to help my users when I can, and am looking into approaches for implementing "what-if" scenarios.
