I like the watch face, but trying to customize anything is useless. All it does is hang and then crash, it doesn't even preview any of the changes I make before crashing back to the main screen.

Sorry you’re running into that, it’s a bug on the Wear OS side that affects some users during customization. A good workaround is to edit the watch face directly on the watch, which is usually much more stable.
