This compass app is great! It works with or without cell service and allows you to turn off filtering (to see the amount of fluctuations in the magnetic field). I'm purchasing the paid version to help support the developers. Their sun position app is also a fine app.

It's an ok compass but.... Not accuate. No matter how many times I do the calibration figure eight, it's off by 10°. Should be able to turn my phone 90° from north and be right on east, but I have to turn my phone 100° to be on east. When I slowly turn my phone (on a flat table may I add) and it gets back to north, it is 20° off, 380° instead of 360° Edited

Often it is on, but sometimes it is off by 100-150 degrees. If I were lost I would never use it.
