About Raiders of the North Sea

“Raiders is mounting a serious challenge as one of the best mobile board games out there.” - Kotaku “The digital version does a brilliant job of recreating the feel of the board game. Smartly designed, with some wonderful visuals and enthralling entertainment, well worth plundering. (5/5 stars)” - ... read more

faithful to the physical game with charm and style. Runs really well on a note 8, but does seem to be a bit of a battery eater. cant wait for the expansions to get added! (and maybe architects next?) (only 4 star controls as viewing tooltips for plunder is awkward and unintuitive, and placing workers can feel like threading a needle at times)

It's a good digital version of a boardgame that I also own. The campaign was good and challenging, but it's rather short. I enjoy games where I can play against the AI, but this one feels repetitive once the campaign is done. Since your ability to choose what you do is so limited each turn, it often feels like you have no control over any strategy; you can only really play what's available, and the only thing that makes one player different from another are the cards you draw, which are random.

Great tutorial got me started quickly , and it's a wonderful game with a decently challenging AI. However... I dropped my rating from 5 stars to 3 once I started trying to play online. The online experience is excruciating, with repeated crashes and necessary force-quits. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 attempts just to play my turn. The friend I play with has an iphone, and has had similar experiences. So: fantastic game for solo play. But VERY buggy and frustrating to try to play online. Edited

Update: loading times have improved. Still, 30-40 seconds to connect is a bit long especially when you tab out of the game and have to reload again when you go back. The adaptation is very well done but too much luck involved to even bother to plan an efficient strategy. Pity because the game plays well and it's fun, but only for a few weeks. Buy if you like worker placement with "take that" mechanics, RNGods, leader's getaway and Viking theme (even if it's just graphical) Edited

NEW REVIEW: See below for initial review, BUT I've downgraded to 3 stars b/c (1) game keeps logging me out during online games when I've switched windows, and (2) completed challenges don't register (e.g. I've made no progress on "Win 3 games" after many wins) OLD REVIEW: Worker placement board game adaptation. Otherwise unique concept. Interface is instinctive. Tutorial could maybe be improved. Graphics superb. All the fun, none of the time-consuming calculation! Good job, guys! Enjoying it. Edited
