After a month or so, the app will start sending notices like, "you only have 3 articles left," as if I wasn't a subscriber. SJ customer service couldn't help, and said they couldn't find my account. Whatever you have to do to make the app subscription "take" is too obscure to figure out. After two tries I'm giving up and cancelling for good.

Subscribe! Wait...what? Every day, sometimes multiple times a day I have to log back in because it tells me I should subscribe to the paper. The dark mode notification issue was *finally fixed so 2 stars. ->Dropped back to 1 b/c sign-in is still going on.<- Why doesn't the app remember? The NYT and WaPo apps remember. At least remember my credentials and let me use my fingerprint if you *insist on signing me out. Edited

I don't like this app at all. I should not have to sign in every time I open the app to read the paper. The layout really is counter-intuitive I would much prefer a typical news layout.

I recently installed an app to monitor and block trackers associated with installed apps. The Statesman Journal app had 243 tracking attempts by 5 separate trackers in less than 1 hour, by far the worst of anything I have installed. Will be canceling my subscription.

I think this newspaper has some real biases regarding their coverage of news around Salem. Seem to cover lots of stories that appeal to South Salem, West Salem and downtown folks. The sports section doesn't cover enough local events, and neglects to mention, or even ignores totally, a few areas high schools teams. They glorify government agencies and don't do enough investigative journalism or challenge politicians. I am very pleased with area education coverage and think Natalie Pate is great!
