Very basic and simple. Get exactly what you ask for. If you want an app with minimal features and open source, this it. One thing that bothers me greatly however, is that in MMS messages, it only gives the first letter and nothing else to identify senders. I have a ton of S's in my one group and I have no idea who is talking half of the time. I tried long pressing for options, but it doesn't have an info option. They need to add full names or info option to identify senders in groups.

Privacy friendly! Love the color schemes. Works. (Or it used to with old phone. Edit: in each conversation it shows the correct contact name on the home page but some random other contact name when I open the conversation. I really want to use this please help!) Edit: I can't tell who is in a group message or see who wrote the each text in a group message. All I see are circles with a letter or a picture. Edited

It used to be decent, with my main complaint being difficulty distinguishing between some users in group messages. But the version released in early January 2024 has so many prompts and persistent, long, slow loading, intrusive ads blocking its use that it isn't worth it. Ads are fine to generate revenue from your work when they don't get in the way, but what's been done here is just idiotic. I'm looking for a different messaging app.

SMS Messenger was working great at first, but when I got the Android 11 update, the app stopped showing my private contact names and now just shows phone numbers. I use Simple Contacts to manage my contact list, and this was the only app that could display those names on my SMS messages. Since it doesn't do that anymore, I've reluctantly switched back to the phone's built-in messaging app. I can't see my contact names anyway, I might as well use the app with more features. Edited

I love it when it's working, but the constant error messages are a deal breaker. The messages never describe the actual issue and pop up constantly. Right now I'm getting an error that says "unterminated entity" that pops up again as soon as it disappears, making it impossible to read text messages because the screen is covered by the error message. I have to force close the app to make it stop, but it begins again when I open the conversation.
