The mobile app is a total Fail if you are trying to navigate in an offline environment like... deep in the wilderness or even state or national parks where internet is not available. It simply doesn't work and I have had much conversation with support on this to be sure it wasn't me. I have the Desktop subscription and mainly bought this to build maps for print and for that, this app is the absolute best. So, the rating is for the mobile app only.

I've been doing hardcore wilderness/ off trail navigation for 30 years and finally a SERUOUS nav system. not just an app, A system. web app allows me to plan and set routes. walk-by-gps app works fine, but I use compass+map and the maps made with CalTopo are second to none. LOVE this system, can't speak highly enough of it for serious /hardcore nav geeks. I hate subscriptions for software, but this is one (the ONLY one) I buy - it's THAT good.

I have been invested in the Gaia platform so if I am to switch to Caltopo, I need a more similar experience. One of my favorite features of Gaia is the folder structure. Looks like your app has similar features but a little different. Please consider a more Gaia approach. Your app turns on all points right away when loading a map and then have to deselect. Not bad app but inconvenient ways of doing things. Edited

I don't like that Google offline maps expire after 1 year. I want maps that I can use for years without an internet connection. I thought this could do that....it can't. You have to subscribe for $20/year. I would pay a 1 time price if it meant my maps would work forever, but even that isn't an option. I'll keep looking I guess. To tech support: I know your maps don't expire like Google maps which is why I downloaded the app. But if subscription renewal isn't possible then the app stops working Edited

Best map app I have used. As a geologist and outdoor enthusiast, this app has many features that help with work and play. I particularly like that is easy to integrate lidar data (shaded relief). That alone has saved me hours of importing and converting lidar with various GIS platforms. Edited
