As a huge fan of the first Card Crawl, I have some..conflicting feelings here. On the one hand, it's a fantastic upgrade that offers more variety via gameplay and cosmetics that makes every run more refreshing. On the other hand, I'll be brutally honest, I'm not a fan of these forced purchases and ad free subscriptions. Forcing the players to purchase pouch upgrades in order to have the ability to buy the heroes and spells/items...man...blemishes like these holds the game back from greatness.

a member of the discord put it best: this developer is just addicted to making good games. the main gameplay loop is amazing, and the difficulty ramping is just right. I like that you can more or less unlock everything through normal gameplay with game rewards, (thank heavens) there's no stamina meter to slow you down. A lot of people are complaining about the subscription to remove ads, but I personally don't think it's worth giving a bad rating to what is otherwise a great game.

I'm a fan of the dev's past games, and this one is no exception. Very polished game with incredible artwork and engaging gameplay. There seems to be a lot of hard work put into this game. I knock stars off because the monetization model is not great. Ads are optional, but there are several IAPs, including needing to spend $8 total to maximize your "gold pouch". I'm also not a huge fan of monthly subscriptions to remove ads. I'd much rather have the option to pay a larger one time purchase. Edited

Big fan of dev so I pre registered immediately. I've been buying devs games since the iPhone 5 days. Opened the game and was greeted with a privacy policy mentioning personal data being collected. Data collection and ads baked into an indie mobile game does not sit well with me. Yes even $1 will disable forced ads but I don't want an ad system still active doing who knows what in exchange for extra rewards. Maybe the data collection is reasonable, maybe it isn't. I'm not finding out.

So far feels like an across the board downgrade. Too many cards are related to affecting revealed cards which pretty much always requires another reveal card to do. These cards are useless. Only being allowed to hold a certain amount of gold means I hit that level and don't touch it for the rest of the day.
