Just installed this Polaris GPS App on my android phone. I selected Compass from the menu selection. I am literally sitting maybe 12 feet above sea level.....this application says that I am over 100 feet up in the air.!!! ha.! why is it displaying false information.? seems like it would read 10 feet to 30 feet max. for the altitude.! (am I wrong?)

Hi. It depends on the source for your altitude data and baseline reference (sea or geoid). If you want accurate surveyed elevation above sea level, open the app's settings and change the altitude source to USGS for USA, Southern Canada or Northern Mexico. Select SRTM (space shuttle radar topography mission) data outside these areas.

I had high hopes for this GPS app. But it failed to deliver. I did a kown 3 mile hike. It was off by 3/4 miles. It showed 2.25 miles. Total time was 45 minutes. App showed 20 minutes. Used it again along side a handheld Garmin GPS. Again, the apps measured distance was about .25 mile per one mile traved. The timer was very inaccurate. The map was accurate, so no worries there if you want to use it as a map guide. But if you want to track time and distance, this app is very inaccurate.

Sorry you had trouble with a recording. Sounds like either the GPS or its host was stopped. Turn off battery optimizations while recording, otherwise the GPS or its host may get turned off by the manufacturer's battery saving features. Contact [email protected] for free GPS trouble shooting if the problem persists.

In my opinion, it's the best GPS app out there by far. It's perfect for I use it for. I do a lot of 4x4 and hiking in the back country of Colorado. Nice how you can "waypoint" and record your trails. It seems to me that it would be almost impossible not to find your way out with app. Ease of use is another great commodity of this GPS app. Never hit the back country without it. Fantastic job on its creation and updates guys!! You have a winner here!!

Not like a real GPS device. You can record a track (trail) but you cannot navigate a track? Have used it only for hiking so no idea how it works for driving. The waypoints functionality is good, and it's nice to see waypoints and tracks on satellite images. But the basic hiking functionality of following a recorded track seems to be missing.

Of course you can navigate a track. Tap the track on you trail list, select "Map Trail". Start walking outdoors and the map will come to life showing a directional location marker which is updated every 2 seconds. Refer to the marker, the trail tracing and the other map cues to stay on the trail. Email questions to [email protected]

A bit clunky, but has a wealth of features. It’s okay for free, but you can only save 3 routes at a time. Possibly if purchased it unlocks more features. Doesn’t seem to keep a time on your routes which I would have liked and only has elevation and plotting. The good is there are lots of map vectors which is very cool. But, I’m still looking
