Didn't think it was possible, but this app is worse than Google maps. All this seems to ever display is a blank screen. At least Google maps sends you off into the jungle to make an unnecessary u-turn. Edit: yah, the ads aren't the problem. The problem is that the ads are the only thing that actually works. Dimwit. I checked all the location permission settings I could find, but I could never get this app to pull up my current location, and the rest of the app is pretty useless if I can't get directions from my current location. The regular Maps app works fine, and even the Google Maps page in Chrome works fine. That surprised me, since this app is basically just a thin wrapper around the web app. Seems like a pretty serious bug. I eventually gave up and uninstalled it.

I tried this app because the regular Google Maps app takes up too much ram on my phone to run smoothly, but when I actually tap to start navigating, it just opens the other app. I thought maybe I could force this app to work independently by disabling the other app, but it just sends me to the Play store to install Google Maps. There's no point using this app, if it just opens the other app.

Google proclaims this to be the perfect app for devices that don't come with much storage, which leads one to believe that you'd be able to delete the full version of maps and replace it with this one yet I cannot uninstall the full version of maps. The phone phone I have already had Google Go on it since it does only come with 16gb, all Google apps that are "Go" versions should already come installed

1 STAR is 1 STAR too many! This map was better on a Blackberry in 2010. That's how awful the upgrades are. The recent reviews are telling the truth- it no longer helps you get ANYWHERE at all. And if part of your destination includes walking- BEWARE! It either leads you in the wrong direction or the needle/compass is ALWAYS off the marker. Oh and before, it used to allow you to load directions/ steps. It no longer does that! You have to follow the map and the "needle." But it is always broken!!
